CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, commonly known as White Card training, covers duty of care, safe work practices, hazard identification, basic risk management, safety signs and documents, reporting processes, incident and emergency responses, first aid access, fire safety equipment and common personal protective equipment. Completion of this unit does not replace the site-specific induction expected before work begins at a particular construction site.

This face-to-face unit introduces the work health and safety knowledge needed before undertaking construction work. Training covers common construction hazards, basic risk controls, incident and emergency procedures, and the correct selection and fitting of common personal protective equipment (PPE).

Training Package Requirements:
  • There is no prerequisite unit for CPCWHS1001.
  • NSW participants must be at least 14 years old.
  • Participants must attend face-to-face training and take part in practical demonstrations and oral and written assessment activities.
RTO Entry Requirements:
  • Participants must provide original evidence-of-identity documents totalling at least 100 points before training begins. The combined documents must show the participant’s full name, photo, date of birth, signature and current residential address.
  • A verified Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required before certification can be issued.
  • The unit requires learners to follow simple safety instructions written in English, ask and answer questions, recognise numbers on safety signs and complete a basic form. Learners can discuss support needs with ALC before enrolment.
  • Participants must complete the required practical demonstration, including selecting and correctly fitting common personal protective equipment.

Will I receive a certificate upon completion?

Yes, upon successfully completing the course requirements, you will receive an official certificate recognised nationally.

What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?

Recognition of Prior Learning (or RPL) is a legitimate part of the VET sector and the Australian education system.

Performed well, it recognises skills built from experience and provides a robust framework to ensure people can have their skills recognised.

Individual competency-based assessment must be undertaken by qualified assessors including to identify training required to fill gaps in a person’s knowledge and skills to meet the requirements specified in a training package.

What is Credit Transfer?

Credit transfer is recognition that you’ve previously completed a unit of your course through VET or higher education.

To receive a credit transfer for a unit you must provide formal evidence that you’ve previously completed the unit or a unit which matches in content and outcome. Formal evidence can be a qualification certificate or transcript, statement of attainment or your USI transcript. When credit is recognised, you don’t need to repeat training or assessment for that unit.
