Intro to Prepare to work safely in the construction industry

Build essential construction safety knowledge before starting work on site

CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry, commonly known as White Card training, covers duty of care, safe work practices, hazard identification, basic risk management, safety signs and documents, reporting processes, incident and emergency responses, first aid access, fire safety equipment and common personal protective equipment.
Completion of this unit does not replace the site-specific induction expected before work begins at a particular construction site.
This course is designed for people who require General Construction Induction Training to undertake construction work in NSW.

SafeWork NSW White Card
Eligible participants who successfully complete all required training and assessment will be issued with a Statement of Attainment. Their application will then be submitted and processed in accordance with SafeWork NSW procedures for the issuance of the NSW General Construction Induction Card (White Card).

Important Information
Successful completion of training and assessment is required before the relevant completion documentation can be issued. The issuing of the NSW General Construction Induction Card is administered by SafeWork NSW. This face-to-face unit introduces the work health and safety knowledge needed before undertaking construction work. Training covers common construction hazards, basic risk controls, incident and emergency procedures, and the correct selection and fitting of common personal protective equipment (PPE).

This unit does not provide a job outcome BUT this course allows you to work legally on construction sites in NSW.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

RTO Entry Requirements:
  • Participants must:
    • be 16 years of age or older
    • provide the required 100 points of Evidence of Identity
    • provide identification showing their photo, date of birth, signature and current residential address
    • A verified Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required before a Statement of Attainment can be issued.
    • You will need to be computer literate and have a basic level of English language, literacy and numeracy.
    • Access to a device to allow online internet completion of the e-Learning component – smart phone, tablet, computer
    • meet the applicable course and assessment requirements.

    Original identification documents must be presented in accordance with SafeWork NSW Evidence of Identity requirements.

Duration to complete the course is generally one day yet may vary depending on individual circumstances.

Will I receive a certificate upon completion?

Yes, upon successfully completing the course requirements, you will receive an official certificate recognised nationally.

What is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)?

Recognition of Prior Learning (or RPL) is a legitimate part of the VET sector and the Australian education system.

Performed well, it recognises skills built from experience and provides a robust framework to ensure people can have their skills recognised.

Individual competency-based assessment must be undertaken by qualified assessors including to identify training required to fill gaps in a person’s knowledge and skills to meet the requirements specified in a training package.

What is Credit Transfer?

Credit transfer is recognition that you’ve previously completed a unit of your course through VET or higher education.

To receive a credit transfer for a unit you must provide formal evidence that you’ve previously completed the unit or a unit which matches in content and outcome. Formal evidence can be a qualification certificate or transcript, statement of attainment or your USI transcript. When credit is recognised, you don’t need to repeat training or assessment for that unit.
